Append file - time aware
We have decided to use Print Distributor as part of a 'print-on-demand' workflow initiated by our customer call centre. Essentially this call centre fires off print requests for various forms, which print out with a mail merged covering letter with optical marks for our folder inserter. We think writing to a single file (append file) would be good, so we can just 'release' the one job. Problem is that we need to be printing the job at say 2.30pm in order to get them out in the post that evening. However, requests would still be being generated. Is there any way of telling PD via a script to append all jobs to one file pre 2.30pm and then create a new file after 2.30 pm perhaps. The files would just need to be recogisable as the day and wether pre or post 2.30
Sorry for the essay!
Best regards

John,
Yes we can change the file name dependent on the time.
Normally we provide scripts free of charge but we do ask for a commitment up front, usually an order for the software.

That's great! I think an order is being processed (via Computerworld Wales) but of course wait until we have actually purchased. Is it possible get a total page count on each of the completed prn files? I've noticed that if you insert field of ?tp? it won't do an append job (each of the individual form packs tend to be different sizes) but just produced individuall prn with different file names.

John,
We would need to put the page count in another file, perhaps with the same name but with a .txt extension?

That would be fine Tony. It's just to give the printroom staff an idea of the size of the job they have to run.
Many thanks
